♦ Who is John?
Legend was born John Stephens on December 28, 1978, in Springfield, Ohio. He is the son of Phyllis, a seamstress, and Ronald, a factory worker and former National Guardsman. Throughout his childhood, Legend was homeschooled on and off by his mother. At the age of four, he began playing the piano and at the age of seven, he rendered music with his church choir. When he was ten, his parents divorced, causing his mother to suffer a breakdown. At the age of 12, Legend attended North High School, from which he graduated four years later. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied English with an emphasis on African American literature

Just an hour ago, Chrissy Teigen posted an Instagram photo showing her husband, John Legend, rubbing her belly, adorably announcing to the world that she’s preggers!
“John and I are so happy to announce that we are pregnant As many of you know, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn’t been easy, but we kept trying because we can’t wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family. We’re so excited that it’s finally happening. Thank you for all your love and well wishes. I look forward to all the belly touching! Xx,” she captioned the picture.
This will be the first child for the singer, 36 and model, 29. The two married in Italy in September 2013 and have been faves on social media. From Legend writing his massive hit “All of Me” for Teigen, to his wife showing off his booty on social media, their romance is always a pleasure to watch. John Legend is clearly overjoyed and confirmed the news, tweeting, “We’re pregnant!”
Congrats to the happy couple!

What was your first scent memory?
The food in my mother’s kitchen. I can smell my mother’s fried chicken.
What do you think Chrissy smells like?
Dior … something. It’s a perfume she wears, uh, the red one. Poison. She smells good.
There’s a rumor that your relationship with Chrissy is inspiring a TV sitcom?
It’s very early in the process, but we’ve been talking to Kenya Barris, who did Black-ish, and they’re developing a pitch around a couple that’s loosely inspired by our lives. We would be producers and give some kind of story input, but then let them run with it. It wouldn’t be directly biographical, it would be using our lives as a jumping-off point, and then creating a series with its own life. It’s in the early development stages.
Singer John Legend isn’t only a force in the music world, because he’s getting his hands dirty in the fashion game.
For New York Fashion Week, Legend collaborated with AXE’s White Label Collective to choose five young menswear designers and give them the opportunity to show their unique collections on September 10. Legend, along with designer Billy Reid and Esquire magazine’s fashion director Nick Sullivan, mentored the up-and-comers prior to the main event.
The Huffington Post sat down with Legend to talk about this awesome initiative, and he expressed his thoughts on diversity in the fashion industry.

The singer doesn’t have a style icon. Instead, he likes to dress like himself. “I like things that feel like they’re timeless and really well made and tailored … things that make me feel confident when I leave the house,” he says. So it’s no surprise that he’s backing designers like Ryan Barr and Savannah Yarborough, who specialize in custom designs and bespoke items. “They all deserve this opportunity and are doing cool stuff, different stuff from each other — but they are all really talented in their own way,” Legend adds. The other three designers include Stanley Cheung, Afriyie Poku and Kristopher Haigh.
As a force in elevating unknown voices in fashion, Legend notes that the industry should also be inclusive and open. “I feel like fashion is making steps toward diversity, but I think they could do more,” he says. Legend adds that fashion should effectively market to its customer base, which he describes as “a diverse group of people of different shapes, colors and sizes.”
Another reason to diversify fashion? “It [would] show everyone out there different forms of beauty, that everyone can be beautiful in their own way and that fashion’s for everybody.”
Well said, Mr. Legend.
